BY AIR
Salzburg W. A. Mozart Airport is the second-largest airport in Austria and served by several different airlines. The distance to the Conference venue is 5,6 - 9 km (depending on the route you take).
- Direct daily flights to Salzburg are available from Düsseldorf, Hamburg, Frankfurt, Istanbul, Palma de Mallorca and London Gatwick.
- From Amsterdam, Transavia services Salzburg on Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday.
- From Vienna, a direct high speed train services Salzburg in about 3 hours with up to 27 daily departures. See the next section 'By train'.
From Salzburg airport, the trolleybus lines 10 (direction Sam) and 2 (direction Obergnigl) will take you to the centre of Salzburg's old town in 15 and 23 minutes respectively.
A taxi will take approx. 15 minutes.
BY train
The best way to reach Salzburg by train is from Vienna airport. A high speed train services Salzburg in about 3 hours with up to 27 daily departures.
It stops within the airport terminal and provides a comfortable way to reach Salzburg, with light and spacious carriages, equipped with cushy seats, and offering plenty of legroom and generous luggage space. Big panoramic windows are perfect for admiring the spectacular views along the way.
There is also a direct train from Munich Central Station which takes about 1h50, but the train from the airport is a slow, multi-stop train and takes 40 minutes. Count on 10-15 minutes for the change of trains and eventual delays. The train from Vienna would be a more comfortable way to reach Salzburg.
BY car
Traveling to Salzburg from inside Austria take the A1 or A10 autobahn, or drive in from Germany on the A8.
Parking, Fees and Tolls
In downtown Salzburg, all parking is fee-based. That’s why we recommend parking at one of the P+R car parks, then riding public transportation for a reduced fare into the city center.
Prior to arriving in Salzburg, and if you are going to be staying at a downtown hotel, be sure to check out details about the hotel directional system as well as how to cope with the road bollards. All autobahns and expressways in Austria are toll roads. A toll exemption applies to the section between Walserberg and Salzburg Nord.
For more information see the Salzburg Congress website.
Within Salzburg
Salzburg is very compact. The congress centre is located at 10 minutes walking distance from the historic heart of the city, accross the river. The walk leads you through the world-famous Mirabell park gardens to the river banks.
Public transport within Salzburg is free of charge: please see the next section 'Guest Mobility Ticket'.
Guest mobility ticket
Since May 2025, in addition to the overnight stay tax, a mobility tax of €1,10 per person per night has been introduced in the Province of Salzburg. In return, you will receive a ‘Guest Mobility Ticket’, which allows you to ride all public transportation in the province of Salzburg for free. This includes urban transport, regional bus services, suburban railways, regional trains, long-distance trains, and micro-mobility services.
The Guest Mobility Ticket will be provided upon check-in at your accommodation and is valid for the duration of your stay. If you are arriving by public transport, your hotel may offer the ticket in advance via email (valid exclusively within the Province of Salzburg). If you wish to receive the ticket in advance, please contact your hotel beforehand.
